đŸŒș Frida Kahlo Story & Art Session đŸŒș

Yesterday’s Rainbow Jane Story and Art session, inspired by Frida Kahlo, was such a special day. I ran three sessions at 11.00, 1.00 and 3.00, and each one was full of creativity, colour and concentration.

We began each session by reading the beautiful book Frida Kahlo and Her Animalitos, which tells Frida’s story and celebrates her love of animals. We talked about how Frida painted the things she loved, and how she kept painting even when she wasn’t well – showing such determination and resilience.

I took a photo of each child and used the Sketch Me app to turn it into a black and white sketch, which I then printed out ready for the art-making. This became the starting point for their portraits.

Out in the Art Shed, everyone used their portrait as the centre of their artwork and, inspired by Frida, added:

🌾 lots of bright colour

🩜 animals they love

🩋 collage and pattern

They painted, stuck, layered and decorated, building their own Frida-inspired worlds around their faces. The care and concentration was wonderful to see – I hope the photos capture just how absorbed everyone was in their work.

The artwork was fabulous. The children were amazing, and a huge thank you to the adults who came along to support and encourage them (and who did a lot of animal cutting-out too!). It was genuinely lovely to see families creating together.

I also want to say how much I enjoyed the day. These sessions are such a joy to run – seeing children grow in confidence, make choices, and proudly take home their artwork is exactly why I love doing Rainbow Jane sessions.

🌈 Coming Up Next

Our next Story and Art session will be inspired by Claude Monet and will take place onSaturday 14th March(Sessions are usually on Sundays, but this month we’re moving it because Sunday 15th is Mother’s Day 💐). Spaces must be booked - see the calendar on https://www.rainbowjane.co.uk/, or reach out to me.

A huge thank you again to everyone who supported yesterday’s sessions – it’s been brilliant to see that some of you have already booked onto the next one!

I can’t wait to keep exploring artists, stories and creativity together 💖🎹
