Messy Masterpieces: Exploring Jackson Pollock Together

Yesterday’s Family Story and Art sessions were full of colour, creativity, and joyful messy fun! 🎨✨

We explored the wonderful book Jackson Pollock Splashed Paint and Wasn’t Sorry, which sparked lots of conversation about abstract art, expression, and having the confidence to create freely.

Across our three sessions, we welcomed two families into each group. We began by reading the story together in the art shed before the children chose where they wanted to create — either under the gazebo or inside the shed itself.

Using primary-coloured acrylic paints, everyone experimented with dripping, blowing, pipetting, and brushing paint to make their own amazing abstract expressionist artworks. Every painting was completely unique, full of movement, energy, and imagination.

The best part was seeing the adults join in too! It became a shared creative experience, with children and grown-ups enjoying the freedom and fun of making Jackson Pollock-inspired art together.

Now we’re already looking forward to our June Family Story and Art sessions, when we’ll be exploring the colourful and fascinating world of Picasso! 🎭🖌️
